Maya Angelou
On a 2022 family sailing trip to Belize we stumbled upon baby loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings, climbing through a sea of plastic (pictured above) as they made their way to the Caribbean. After that life changing experience we vowed to further reduce our consumption of plastics. We're also making conscious choices to shop more at small and eco friendly businesses rather than defaulting to online retail behemoths. We had already been on the path toward concsiously choosing natural materials whenever possible across the gamut of consummable goods: toys, everyday personal items, household cleaning products, home decor, and clothing. Watching those baby turtles made us want to actively find more, better choices. Plus, when the everyday objects in your home are made from natural materials, they add warmth and unexpected aesthetic benefits, and serve as constant reminders that you are making better choices for your family and the planet. Changing our shopping habits and knowing where to start can seem daunting at first, but we have found a lot of great resources on our journey to doing better that we want to share. Check out the other pages on our "Do Better" drop down menu for more specific ideas and resources.
