Below is the list of items we used for cloth diapering, complete with a cost break down. Costs have gone up overall a bit since I last priced this, but this will still give you an idea of what you might need and roughly how much it will cost.
- 6 x 6 pack of OsoCozy unbleached cotton pre-folds (@ $11.99 per 6 pack = $71.94)
- 3 x Bummis super brite diaper covers (@ $12.95 per = $38.85)
- 3 x Thirsties Duo Wrap Snap diaper covers (@$13.95 per = $41.85)
- 1 x 3 pack Babykicks organic hemp/cotton doublers (@ $18.75) -- great because they are two pieces sewn together at one end and you can easily cut them apart when baby starts wetting less at night and use only one piece at a time
- 1 x 3 pack of Snappis diaper fasteners (@ $9.95)
- 3 x 15 pack Babykicks natural/organic babywipes (@ $15.95 per = $47.85)
- 1 Prince Lionheart wipes warmer for reusable cloth wipes (keep a cloth diaper under it to catch condensation that drips when opening the lid) (@ $28.99)
- Safety 1st diaper pail (@ $19.55)
- 2 x Planet Wise diaper pail liners (@ $16.50 per = $33.00)
- 1 x small wet bag (There are lots of them out there. I like Planet Wise a lot; they are more expensive, but they last a long time! Keep it in your diaper bag and use it for storing wet/dirty clothes & dirty cloth diapers until you get home) (@ $9.86)
- 1 x medium wet bag (same notes as above for small wet bag) (@ $17.16)
- 1 x hand held bidet sprayer for toilet (Wow, the availability and diversity of these has exploded since COVID!) (@ $59.95)
- Diaper lotion potion 4 oz. concentrate for reusable wipes (this lasts us about 9 months) (@ $15.95 per 4 oz.)
- TOTAL COST = $413.65
Note: Items in bold can be used at both the infant and toddler sizes until your baby is out of diapers all together, while you'll have to get separate sets of items not in bold for the infant (approx. 8-15 lb) and toddler (approx. 16 - 30 lb) sizes.
In addition to the above items exclusive to our diaper supplies, we also use:
- Arm & Hammer Free of Perfumes & Dyes detergent (readily available, inexpensive, recommended by our Naturopathic doctor friend who also cloth diapered)
- White vinegar (from Costco) in the diaper prewash and rinse cycles
- Downy Ball for vinegar so you don't have to add it manually when your washer goes to the rinse cycle.
- Arm & Hammer baking soda (from Costco) in the overnight soak
- A retractable clothing line
